HTQ launches Mentorship and Training Program 2026

13 February 2026

Today, Health Translation Queensland (HTQ) is launching 2 new training and development initiatives, designed to support research-active health professionals to build a sustainable and impactful research career.

Together, the HTQ Mentorship and Training Program 2026 and the HTQ-sponsored Translation Fellowships will support emerging, early- and mid-career research-active health professionals from across HTQ’s 6 health service partners – Children’s Health Queensland, Metro North Health, Metro South Health, Gold Coast Health, West Moreton Health, and Mater – to build knowledge, confidence, networks and momentum at critical stages of their careers.

“If we want research to be translated faster and more effectively, we must invest in the people doing that work,” said HTQ’s Executive Director, Dr Celia Webby.

“These initiatives are about building confidence, capability and connections — supporting the next generation of research-active clinical leaders to navigate complexities, collaborate across boundaries, and translate research into improved outcomes for our health system, patients and the broader community.

“This is central to HTQ’s role in strengthening translation capability and fostering innovation across Queensland,” Dr Webby said.

HTQ Mentorship and Training Program 2026

Supporting health professionals on their research journey

This brand-new program, co-designed with HTQ’s health service partners and clinician-researchers, supports emerging, early- and mid-career research-active health professionals to grow as research translation leaders.

Participants will:

  • build practical knowledge to translate research into policy and practice
  • gain confidence in leadership, research strategy and career planning
  • expand cross-disciplinary networks across HTQ health service partners
  • receive personalised, one-on-one strategic mentoring to help navigate the research ecosystem
  • access targeted grant-writing support and senior-level networking opportunities.

The program brings together a cohort of peers from across HTQ’s 6 health service partners to create space for collaboration, shared learning and long-term professional connections.

Second opportunity: HTQ sponsorship of 2 TRI Translation Fellowships 2026

This year, HTQ is also sponsoring 2 research-active health professionals to participate in the 2026 Translation Pathways Program delivered by our partner, the Translational Research Institute (TRI).

The 12-month-long program is one of TRI’s flagship educational offerings and supports researchers to identify and refine their value propositions, develop new cross-sector collaborations, and build the skills and confidence needed to move research towards real-world impact.

“This fellowship was an invaluable opportunity. It helped me refine how I articulate and ‘pitch’ my research and broaden my career opportunities in evidence translation,” said Dr Sally Griffin, and Accredited Practising Dietitian and Research Fellow from Metro South Health, who has participated in the TRI Translation Pathways Program in 2025.

The sponsorship of 2 TRI Translation Fellowships will provide access to TRI’s structured curriculum, expert facilitation and peer cohort opportunities to build collaborations across research, industry and the health system and to strengthen translation readiness and funding pathways.

Applications for both opportunities are now open and close on 13 March 2026.
