Mentorship and Training Program 2026

Mentorship and Training Program 2026

Supporting health professionals on their research journey

The Health Translation Queensland Mentorship and Training Program 2026 supports emerging and early- to mid-career research-active health professionals to build the knowledge, confidence and networks needed to translate research into real-world health impact.

Co-designed with HTQ’s 6 health service partners – Children’s Health Queensland, Metro North Health, Metro South Health, Gold Coast Health, West Moreton Health, and Mater – and clinician-researchers, the program aims to build the research capability of research-active health professionals through targeted training, cross-disciplinary networking, and personalised support and mentoring.

What the program offers

From 12 May to 1 December 2026, 13 selected participants will take part in:

  • 6x targeted education sessions (2 hours per session) delivered online (x3) and in person (x3) at the Herston Health Precinct on topics including:
    • implementation science and outcomes
    • IP and innovation
    • managing a research group/lab/project/budget and balancing the clinical load
    • designing for translation and impact
    • leadership, strategy and planning
    • developing an independent research career
  • a cross-disciplinary, cross-health services cohort experience with Queensland peers
  • 6 months of strategic individualised 1:1 coaching aligned to participant goals
  • access to a weekly peer-learning network connecting participants with the TRI Translation Fellowship cohort, with facilitated ‘ask me anything’ sessions to support applied learning.

A key design feature is the intentional integration of mentors, who are invited to participate in education sessions to:

  • strengthen the mentor–mentee relationship
  • enable shared learning experiences
  • support alignment of expectations and goals
  • create value for both parties and extend benefit beyond the individual participant cohort.

This approach supports a broader ecosystem uplift, building capability not only within the participant cohort, but across mentor networks and participating organisations.

Program delivery reflects a collaborative partnership model, with in-kind contributions from Queensland Health, The University of Queensland, Helix Hub, Metro North Health, and Metro South Health, alongside targeted coaching delivered by Bright Arena.

Participants who attend at least 2 out of the 3 face to face sessions will also be eligible for grant writing support funding of up to $2,000.

The program concludes with a special end-of-year networking event with HTQ’s Board on 1 December 2026.

Yes. The program is designed to fit around clinical and research workloads and focuses on high-value, practical support rather than theory. You’ll gain targeted training, access to tailored ad hoc strategic advice and support from HTQ’s Executive Director in navigating the research ecosystem (1:1 inbox mentoring), and peer networks across HTQ's health service partners—without needing to step away from your role for extended periods. The structure is deliberately streamlined to help you progress translation goals, strengthen grant competitiveness, and plan your next career step efficiently

Participants will be surveyed:

  • mid-program to ensure that they are on track, to identify any barriers to their participation and to actively address any issues arising
  • post-program to determine impact.
