Dr Peter Aitken
Dr Peter Aitken is an experienced emergency physician with a diverse background and additional post-graduate qualifications in teaching, research, disaster management and executive leadership. Along with over 35 years of experience at Queensland Health, he has also served with multiple academic programs, professional organisations and research groups in Australia and overseas.
Peter’s clinical background and research experience inform his patient-centred and collaborative approach to governance with patient outcomes as his key focus. His governance experience includes current Board roles with Metro North Health and Lives Lived Well, and roles as Audit and Risk Committee member for South Australia's Department of Health and the Queensland Police Service. He previously served as a Board member and Vice President of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine and as Chief Medical Officer for St John Ambulance Australia.
In 2024, he received a Public Service Medal in the Australia Day Honours List for outstanding public service during COVID-19 to Queensland’s emergency health response and to the field of disaster management.
