Conflicts of interest (COI) are a normal part of modern research, particularly in health and medical sciences where collaborations, funding, and clinical applications intersect. But when unmanaged, COIs can compromise research integrity, distort evidence, and erode public trust.
This session will explore the principles of responsible research conduct through the lens of conflict of interest. We’ll cover the foundational expectations set out in the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the accompanying guide on Managing and Disclosing Conflicts of Interest. We will examine real-world examples of COI breaches and discuss how COI in this this field of research differ from the norm. We will explore practical strategies for recognising, declaring, and managing COI in ways that uphold integrity and maintain confidence in clinical research.
