Research governance process

Research governance refers to the processes used by institutions to ensure that they are accountable for the research conducted within their organisation. After obtaining ethics approval, research governance approval must be obtained by submitting a site-specific assessment (SSA) application to all sites where research will be conducted.

All Health Translation Queensland partners are accountable for the research conducted within their organisation and have research governance offices responsible for the oversight of research projects. The SSA is generally only required at public (and the Mater) health organisations.

What is Site Specific Assessment

Site Specific Assessment involves organisations considering matters such as staff, resources, funding, equipment, contracts, insurance and indemnity. The submission of ethics and the SSA applications may be done in parallel, however, the decision to authorise a project's SSA will only be made once the project has received ethics approval.

All applications in Queensland are to be made through the Ethics Review Manager using the Site Specific Assessment form.
