Queenslanders invited to shape the future of health and medical research

26 March 2024

On 24 April, Health Translation Queensland (HTQ) will host an online workshop to seek feedback from Queenslanders about the national statement on consumer and community involvement (CCI) in health and medical research.

HTQ Operations Director and Australian Health Research Alliance (AHRA) Operations Lead Katrina Cutler explained the HTQ workshop was part of a national review of the consumer statement.

“The consumer statement provides leadership and guidance to support CCI in all aspects of health and medical research,” Katrina said.

“The upcoming engagement workshops invite the community to provide input into the statement’s review and revision.

“The statement was developed in 2006 and last updated approximately 8 years ago.

“Since then, CCI in research has evolved significantly, and we would like to see this reflected in the reframed statement.

“We want to ensure consumers and the community, as funders and beneficiaries of research and health care are front and centre in driving a health system fully informed by research that meets their needs.”

While there are no mandatory requirements for participation in the workshop, it is recommended that participants read the Consumer Statement Review Position Paper before attending the workshop.

AHRA, through its Research Translation Centres, including HTQ, has been commissioned by the National Health and Medical Research Council to conduct a number of workshops across Australia until mid-May 2024.

Consumers and community members can also have their say via the NHMRC online survey, which closes on 31 May 2024.

Register now for HTQ’s online workshop on 24 April 2024.
