Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners recognised as world leaders in research, education and clinical care
Queensland’s Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners has been accredited as an Advanced Health Research and Translation Centres (AHRTC) by Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).
The Federal Minister for Health and Minister for Sport, the Hon Greg Hunt MP announced that an international expert panel acknowledged the Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners (BDHP) ability to link health care delivery with strong research translation and education across Queensland.
BDHP is a collaboration of ten leading Queensland health care, research and education organisations in a strong partnership to deliver better evidence-based health outcomes for our patients and our community
“The designation provides recognition of what is being achieved collaboratively in Queensland to strengthen the links between education, research and health care to improve the health system. It also provides a platform that will further strengthen our national and international linkages in health care” said Dr Robin Mortimer, Chairman.
“Our focus is on bringing innovative research from the laboratory to patients as efficiently and effectively as possible.”
To be recognised as an AHRTC, BDHP met six key criteria:
- Leadership in outstanding research- and evidence-based clinical care, including for the most difficult clinical conditions,
- Excellence in innovative biomedical, clinical, public health and health services research,
- Programs and activities to accelerate research findings into health care and ways of bringing health care problems to the researchers
- Research-infused education and training
- Health professional leaders who ensure that research knowledge is translated into policies and practices locally, nationally and internationally
- Strong collaboration amongst the research, translation, patient care and education programs.
Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners General Manager, Ms Areti Gavrilidis, said “We are addressing the health of our population by focusing on nine broad health areas affecting Australians - Ageing, Brain and Mental Health, Cancer, Skin and Skin Cancer, Chronic Disease, Immunity, Inflammation and Infection, Maternal and Child Health, Trauma, Critical Care and Recovery and Evidence and Innovation in Clinical Care. Patients and the community can expect to see benefits over time in areas such as new medicines and treatment methods”.
Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners is Queensland’s first Advanced Health Research and Translation Centre and one of three new centres that were awarded AHRTC recognition assessed by an international panel of experts. BDHP looks forward to collaborating with the other six AHRTCs and two Centres for Innovation in Regional Health to advance improvements in health across Australia.
