NHMRC Research Translation Long Weekend

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Research Translation Long Weekend 2022 will be a hybrid event held in collaboration with the Australian Health Research Alliance (AHRA), the Sax Forum, and the Australian Living Evidence Consortium (ALEC)/ Cochrane Australia.

Health Translation Queensland will hold a satellite event at the Translational Research Institute on the opening day, with audiences invited to a group viewing of the session, and an opportunity to network over afternoon tea.

Theme

The theme this year is 'Embracing Diversity', and the intention is to encourage the translation of research that improves equity and respects the health and health care decision making needs of people of different cultures, ethnic groups, socio-economic groups, abilities or ages. It includes (but is not limited to):

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • people who live in rural and remote areas
  • culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities
  • people living with disability.

Speakers

Keynote and plenary speakers over the course of the event will include:

  • Professor Jeremy Grimshaw, The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Canada
  • Professor Jane Fisher, Monash University
  • Professor Lucy Montgomery, Curtin University
  • Dr Robert Terry, UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR)
  • Prof Nicole Pratt, University of South Australia
  • Dr Kalinda Griffiths, University of NSW
  • Associate Professor Odette Pearson.

There will be 8 plenary sessions livestreamed over the four days of the Symposium.

Topics include:

  • Mobilising knowledge to improve equity in health outcomes
  • An equitable start to life: getting best practice into mother, infant and family care
  • Transforming how research is generated, valued and used
  • Open science, research translation, equity, and diversity.
