HTQ acknowledges and thanks departing Board members for their leadership

26 November 2024

As 2024 comes to a close we would like to extend our thanks to several Board members who will be concluding their time with Health Translation Queensland (HTQ).

These individuals, representing many of our 13 partner organisations, have played an important role in shaping HTQ’s transformation and advancing our mission to improve population health outcomes through collaborative partnerships.

HTQ has evolved significantly over recent years—growing from primarily distributing NHMRC and MRFF grant funding to becoming an organisation focused on making the work of translational research easier, increasing Queensland’s translational research capability, and maximising the benefit of health research translation for all Queenslanders. This approach has allowed us to tackle the challenges that can limit the effective translation of research into real-world health improvements. The leadership and guidance of our departing Board members have been essential to this progress, and we are truly appreciative of their dedication and insight.

We would like to acknowledge the following departing individuals for their service to the HTQ Board:

  • Professor Scott Bell, CEO, Translational Research Institute
  • Dr Michael Cleary, Chief People, Engagement and Research Officer, Metro South Health
  • Colleen Jen, Deputy Director-General Clinical Planning and Service Strategy, Queensland Health
  • Professor Geoff McColl, Executive Dean, Faculty of Medicine, The University of Queensland
  • Dr Peter Steer, Group Chief Executive, Mater

Each of these Board members brought unique expertise, vision and commitment to their roles on the Board. We wish them all the best as they move on to new ventures in 2025.

We would also like to recognise departing Professor Frank Gannon, who has served as Special Advisor to the HTQ Board. Professor Gannon has played a pivotal role in guiding HTQ’s strategic direction, helping to shape important initiatives like the Roadmap for Strengthening Health Research and Translation in Queensland and the Queensland Cancer Funding Analysis. His knowledge, strategic insights and commitment to advancing health research have made a lasting impact on HTQ’s work.

Many thanks to our departing Board members and Professor Gannon for their invaluable contributions. We look forward to continuing the important work we’ve started, building on the foundation they helped lay, and to welcoming our new Board representatives in 2025.
