Armed with a double degree in nursing and health promotion, Emma White started her professional career nursing in diverse environments – from busy London hospitals to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services at home in Central Queensland. She also squeezed in post-graduate study in international public health. While her experience in Aboriginal medical services was fulfilling, Emma’s career highlight was helping to achieve plain packaging for cigarettes. She was part of the national group advocating for this important health change. Australia became one of the first countries in the world to adopt plain packaging. Emma moved from nursing into health project management, working in several roles at local, state and national level. Before joining BDHP in 2021 as our National System Level Initiatives Project Manager, Emma spent five years at the Brisbane North Primary Health Network (PHN). There, Emma worked with aged care providers, peak bodies and the local hospital health service to implement projects to improve clinical practice and realign health and aged care services to community needs. At BDHP, Emma continues to expand on this work, coordinating Queensland’s contribution to the AHRA National System Level Initiatives – including Wound Care and Health System Improvement and Sustainability. She works with colleagues from other translation research centres across Australia. Together, they determine how to implement project outcomes and improve the health system in their respective state or territory as well as on a national level. Outside of work, Emma loves floral design. On the weekends, she enjoys creating bouquets and other masterpieces for friends.Quicklinks
